OTHER STUDIES-IMPROVEMENTS TO MICROBIAL TECHNOLOGY

• Improvements to the use of fungi and bacteria in various applications (biocontrol agents, for dye and metal removal) were studied to enhance either their bioactivities or removal of pollutants. Use of biofilm, pre-treatments and nutrient-manipulation, are known to enhance pollutant removal, while both applications benefit from immobilization/encapsulation. • Optimizing production of valuable compounds is important to enable the compounds to be produced and harvested for use in the most economically feasible means. We optimized growth and production conditions of valuable enzymes, and anti-tumour agents from the microbes. The following are our results:
